The product of more than a year’s writing and recording, Archshark King’s album Float & Kick evokes a folk-tinged dystopian netherworld of fickle teenage friendship (Never forever), bad neighbours (Good neighbours), death by stray bullet (Missing) and obsessive relationships (Again again), as well as drawing on more uplifting themes of a life of lovers (Four Seasons) and the liberating power of music (The music tells me). Released on 23 October 2015, Float & Kick is now available to listen or to buy from Bandcamp and all major online music stores.

Take a look at the video for Westway, and was shot in Ladywell and the very cold West End of London.

Again again

I’m not looking for a cultural exchange
I just need you to frack out my brains

Now you’ve found me again again
Elastic force has won its way
I hope you won’t pitter patter prattle on ‘bout love
Keep those words from me or never never speak

You are my life!

Face to face again again
The crumple zone is weak and soft
My defences split and I go right down the wrong path
Better should I know than set this off again

Why falling down the wrong hole again?
You’d think I remember broken limbs
I should run from you but one look from you
I’m in the crumple zone
I’m in the crumple zone
I’ve lost the way home
I’m in the crumple zone

You are my life!
I trust my instincts
We’re good together

Now I’ve found you again again
I never thought I’d see this day
Going to make you mine so mine so mine so mine so mine
Make you understand that we are meant to be

Why falling down the wrong hole again?
You’d think I remember broken limbs
I should run from you but one look from you
I’m in the crumple zone
I’m in the crumple zone
I’ve lost the way home
I’m in the crumple zone

Closer

When I dreamed, I dreamed of life’s adventures
Not rooted to the spot, broke, and needing dentures
I grew up with you, I grew up with you
But still we miss a vital spot, a vital clue

Closer now, come closer now
Oh, well we get so tired
Closer than this paper world outside

Really gets you down, the back of this town, life’s changes
The trouble here is known, it’s easy to be thrown on these wages
I call out to you, I call out to you
All you see is fading fast, a fading dream

Closer now, come closer now
Oh, well we get so tired
Closer than this paper world outside

Well I never, the never-never, the never-never
They’ve burnt our house down
Don’t believe that we can’t swim

Trouble schemes and plots to tie us up in knots while we’re sleeping
When it’s all too late, we finally awake to be beaten
We are very small, we are very small
And if we win it is because we give our all

Closer now, come closer now
Oh, well we get so tired
Closer than this paper world outside

Fairies

You know I was clean and sober?
Well that’s all gone
I’ve thrown caution to the wind
That better me
I think she’s over
Over
Far as I see
It’s the same world
And nothing changed
And nothing’s changed

Send me to the fairies
Send me to the fairies
I’m still waiting
I’m still waiting

Tell me I’m dead (with no angels)
What’s in my mind?
Well, what is in my mind?
Respectable?
I think that’s over
Over
Far as I see
It’s the same world
And nothing changed
And nothing’s changed

Send me to the fairies
Send me to the fairies
I’m still waiting
I’m still waiting

Four seasons (m)

I fell in love with her
She was just fourteen years
And I was thirteen years
I couldn’t call it wrong

Those were the best of a time
Our first taste of grown up love
And it still makes me smile
It makes me smile

I love to love
I love to be loved
To feel someone’s thoughts in me
As my thoughts are with them

Then came a time of more
The girls and women too
The heathen and the holy
The sweet ones and the sour
Still it makes me smile
It makes me smile

I love to love
I love to be loved
To feel someone’s thoughts in me
As my thoughts are with them

The sensations of summer days
Past strategic past
From the platform of support we can rise
To make our name
For our gorgeous child to take

Quiet! Time to fall
My autumn now begins
And those who take my fancy
Say I am looking older

I love to love
I love to be loved
To feel someone’s thoughts in me
As my thoughts are with them

Good neighbours

You're banging on my wall
I turn the TV down
You're banging more and more
I'm getting angry now
You up the ante
You stick my doorbell down
This is stupid
It's going down and down

Good neighbours
They have respect
Good neighbours
It's give and take
Good neighbours
For heaven's sake
I just want to live my life
Without you always telling me how

I know you're not like me
That doesn't make you weird
It's all your fucking hate
That I do not deserve
What did I do
To make you be this way?
This is stupid
You want it all your way

Good neighbours
They have respect
Good neighbours
It's give and take
Good neighbours
For heaven's sake
I just want to live my life
Get off my fucking case!

For my girl
This ain't funny
She ain't sleeping
Through your constant knocking
You're avoiding the real world

I've had you up to here
The way you think of me
I'd better stop this now
Or I'll become like you
Bitter and twisted
And now it's rubbing off
This is stupid
I think I've had enough

Good neighbours
They have respect
Good neighbours
It's give and take
Good neighbours
For heaven's sake
I just want to live my life
Get off my fucking case!

Good neighbours
They're living in your attic
Good neighbours
They're underneath your bed
Good neighbours
They're hiding in the closet
Good neighbours
They're going to eat your head!

Missing

In the still-ill day
By the still-ill light
Captain Kelly sipped some water and said
‘This feels strange. This feels strange’

I can see danger
I don’t feel danger
I feel like a boy scout going camping
What a day! What a day!

Ice cream time…
Ice cream time…
Ice cream time died with father
Died with father

In the still-ill day
By the still-ill light
Captain Kelly floated over and smiled
‘This feels strange
This feels strange
This feels strange
This feels strange’

Never forever

Truth is just something you want to believe in at night
Or so I thought
But never tell, never tell that story
Never take, never take that from me

Put about a sordid lie
I never. I never
I never even spoke to her, I swear
Jesus! I never, I never, I swear

You are so my truest friend
For ever, for ever
I mustn’t trust that one ‘cos she’s a snake
True friend for ever and ever. That’s long

Truth is just something you want to believe in at night
Or so I thought
But never tell, never tell that story
Never take, never take that from me

Truth is just something you want to believe in at night
Or so I thought
But never tell, never tell that story
Never take, never take that from me

She was not my truest friend
For ever, for ever
She said that it was her and it was her
Friendship? For never, for never. It’s gone

Open heart

Oh my lover
I’ve seen
The red, the white
All around us they stare
And they smile
Which will win
The war, the war?
I don’t know, no
I don’t know, no
I don’t know between us

This is an open heart
This is an open heart

Oh my lover, I’ve seen
The red, the white
At times like this
Fight like hell
Which will win
The wrong, the right?
I don’t know, no
I don’t know, no
I don’t know between us

This is an open heart
This is an open heart

The music tells me

This time, every time
Time and time and time and time again
Thrill me
Amaze me
Take the notes, the chord, the choir the kill
Bring it inside, bring it inside
Your sweet head
Sweeten, sharpen twist it with desire
Better be not, better be not, better be not in vain
Be my Jesus
Be my lover
Be insane

I feel freer
When the beat comes in
So sorted
When the beat comes in
My special feeling
My special feeling
My special feeling

Inside, take a side
Take me back and break me once again
Kill me
Enslave me
Twist the knife, the heart, the mind, the soul
Bring it inside, bring it inside
Your sweet head
Leave me wanting more than you can take
Never forget, never forget, never forget yourself
Be my angel
Be my devil
Be my pain

I feel freer
When the beat comes in
So sorted
When the beat comes in
My special feeling
My special feeling
My special feeling

The music tells me
The music tells me
The music tells me all I know
The music tells me all I know. No!
The music tells me
The music tells me
The music tells me all I know
The music tells me all I know
The music tells me all I know

Westway

As we crawled up the Westway
She said
‘I love the city
I love the people
I love the noise’
Streets with things on sale
And everything’s for sale

To the call of the sirens
She said
I like the mountains
I like the fields
But most I like…

Streets with things on sale
And everything’s for sale
Streets with things on sale
And everything’s for sale

Don’t have to think about it
I’m made in London
Made in London
I’m streets of gold!
I’m made in London
Made in London Town

Streets with things for sale
Where everything’s on sale
Streets with things on sale
Where everything’s for sale

You say you’re fine

You say you’re fine
But you’re not
Your lovely smile is fake
And all your words
Certainly not to be trusted
Certainly not by me
But I like you, strangely

I’ll take you on!
I’ll take you on!
I’ll take you on!
I’ll take you on!

I think I’m smart
But I am not
Although it’s my own mind
It doesn’t help
Certainly not to be trusted
Certainly not by me
But I like it, strangely

I’ll take you on!
I’ll take you on!
I’ll take you on!
I’ll take you on!

And here we are
Once again
By kissing with cupid
Stupid again
Certainly not to be trusted
Certainly not by me
But I’m going to, certainly
So certainly

I’ll take you on!
I’ll take you on!
I’ll take you on!
I’ll take you on!
